There was a time when it seemed like the Warriors could never be stricken with injuries. That seems like a thought long ago.
The walking wounded held it down without their captain of their ship (Stephen Curry) for the most of the game winning 111-108 over the Denver Nuggets. Draymond Green finished with 29 points, Klay Thompson had 26. The Warriors are now 31-2.
Probable for their first home game of the 2016 Curry had missed the previous two games with a lower left shin injury. He would start the game but re-aggravated it during the second quarter.
"I have no idea yet. I just saw him limping. I was talking to the staff before that if he had any pain or started limping that we were going to take him out and let them evaluate him. I haven't really spoken to him since it happened," said interim coach Luke Walton
The 150th consecutive sellout was louder than usual upon their first game of the New Year but had the wind taken out of them when the 12-22 Nuggets came back from a 13 point deficit in 4th quarter, taking the game into overtime with a basket by bench player Will Barton. The last regular season loss at ORACLE was 1/27/15 against the Chicago Bulls 113-111.
Denver Nuggets go into a huddle after Will Bartons shot that took the game into OT
"We just wanted to win the game. Obviously with Steph going out that's always hude but we don't go out thinking like 'oh we've got to show people we can win without Steph.' I mean at the end of the day we don't care what people think about that because that's the MVP of the league and we need him. That's no secret," said Draymond Green who continued his triple-double streak compiling his 6th. Green currently leads the league in triple doubles, his final stats were a season high 29 pts, 17 rebounds and 14 assists.
According to Luke Walton there's no secret that Green makes things happen when he's in the game. "He can have 4pts and still be the best player on the floor. we need his scoring, rebounding and play making."
