The Warriors lead all professional sports teams with five nominations for the 2015 ESPY Awards, while Stephen Curry is tied with UFC fighter Ronda Rousey for three individual categories.
The Warriors won the 2014-15 NBA Championship with a 4-2 series win over the Cleveland Cavaliers in the NBA Finals, their first title since 1975. Golden State finished the postseason with a franchise-record 16 postseason wins (16-5, .762) and combined to win 83 games in the regular season and playoffs, the third highest combined win total in NBA history behind only the 1995-96 and 1996-97 Bulls. Warriors guard Stephen Curry became the second player in franchise history to be named NBA Most Valuable Player following Wilt Chamberlain for the Philadelphia Warriors in 1959-60.
Warriors Head Coach Steve Kerr has been a part of all three teams in NBA history to win at least 83 games in a single season (two as a player, one as a coach) and is the first person to lead his team to a title in his first season as an NBA head coach since Pat Riley led the Lakers to a championship in 1981-82. In his 52-point performance on January 23, 2015, Thompson set an NBA mark for most points in a single quarter, tallying 37 points in the third frame on a perfect 13-of-13 from the field and 9-of-9 from three-point range.
Curry is also nominated for the BET Sportsman of the Year Award to be held this Sunday in Los Angeles.
